About

The room under the chandeliers

The Astoria’s ballroom is the oldest in London: parquet from 1912, five crystal chandeliers, a balcony that runs the length of the room, and windows onto the street. Two hundred and forty guests dine here; three hundred and fifty stand for a reception. The bar in the lobby is its own reason to come.

The open evening is the ballroom as it is on a wedding night, not a viewing in daylight: tables laid, the band playing, the kitchen serving the menu, the cake cut at ten. Dress up if you like. Leave with a date.

FAQ

The questions couples ask

How many guests can the ballroom hold?

Two hundred and forty seated with a dance floor; three hundred and fifty for a standing reception. The balcony adds sixty at long tables.

Can we hold the ceremony here?

Yes — on the floor, under the central chandelier, with the balcony above. Many couples marry at six and sit down at seven in the same room, turned around.

Where do our guests stay?

Upstairs. The hotel has a hundred rooms and we hold a floor for every wedding at a wedding rate; the rest of the West End is a walk.

How late can the music play?

Until four. The ballroom is two floors below the first room and the windows are the kind that close.

Is there parking?

Valet at the door, and the garage under the hotel. Most guests arrive by taxi and leave the same way.

Your date
